Our flight is delayed with five hours, which in the end works out much better when it came to the jet lag. Luc is very well behaved during the flight. He watches movies and plays games and somehow finds time to sleep as well!! We arrive in NY at 11. For the first time have a friendly immigration officer with a sense of humor! Uri has booked a car and this time there is no snow outside the airport, and not as cold as last year. Luckily not a lot of traffic and nice room at hotel. Uri meets us just after we get there. We are straving and he takes us to great restaurant - French Toastery. Luc of course has chips, french toast and fruit. Uri and Monique does the real American thing - Hamburger!!!
Luc cannot wait for the subway, so we go down to Uri's office on 37st Ave. Whilst Uri finishes up some work, we hit Maceys. It is the FLower show, as well as the Macey's sale. It is chaos, but spectacular. We only manage to do 2 of the 8 floors of shopping. Get some stunning stuff for the Ninah and Kayla, but no great things for Luc - seems that the girls clothes are much nicer! Luc is only interested in the bubblegum dispenser and finally manages to get some, by using the 25cents he has picked up in a vending machine!
We meet up with Uri again and walk up to Time Square - Callie's first time here. It is not as hectic as normally, but it is freezing outside. Luc is complaining about being tired, but then he sees the big Toys 'R Us shop and all his tiredness is gone!! Stunning 3 (or more!) story shop with a massive ferris wheel spanning 3 stories in the entrance. Luc sets off to the Lego departement (with a massive moving dynasaur on one side). Monique goes off to the girls department. Stunning toys - at very good prices (and this is a pricey store!). You all of a sudden realise how much we are paying in SA!
We struggle to get Luc out of the shop - he wants to buy all the Legos - so Uri negotiates a deal with him - small Lego now and bigger one when we come back.
We take the subway to 86 Ave and decides to walk to hotel. Tired, cold and hungry. Sees a Jewish Deli with soup and we run in there. Have great soup and two glasses of wine - to get rid of the cold. Luc falls asleep and Callie has to carry him home. We get into bed at about 10 - so think there will be very little jet lag tomorrow.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY : Callie says that NY is a great city!!!!
